Living on the Mesa off grid does pose its problems. We couldn't find a concrete company to bring the concrete truck 6 miles off a paved road for our foundation. Also, living on the mesa, the ground literally is solid rock. So we had to get creative. We determined how many piers we would need and bought sona tubes. We hand mixed concrete and took two whole weekends doing nothing but filling the tubes and mixing concrete and another two weekends just digging holes. Luckily, we have a few tractors, an auger coupled with some off grid engineering and the holes were ready for the tubes and concrete. 24 tubes and three and a half pallets (12,000 pounds) of concrete later..we had it. Ready for the floor structure of our new log cabin!
